Deulofeu Returns to Barcelona Hoping to Stay
Gerard Deulofeu’s return to Barcelona has sparked fresh conversation among fans who follow club football as passionately as they follow Live Cricket Bangladesh. With the Catalan club facing lingering doubts in their attacking depth, Deulofeu’s ambition to secure a permanent role at Camp Nou has become a story to watch this season.
In previous seasons, Barcelona struggled to find reliable backup forwards. Players like Sandro Ramírez and Munir El Haddadi had limited impact during their time with the club. Sandro logged only 267 minutes while Munir saw 818 minutes on the field, with both contributing a combined five goals. Despite being expected to shoulder more responsibility off the bench, their limited game time stifled their progress. Munir started 16 times, and Sandro just nine.
After they left the club, their paths diverged. Sandro found form with Málaga, scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances. Munir, on the other hand, managed only six goals at Valencia. Last summer, Barcelona brought in Paco Alcácer from Valencia, but he too struggled to find his rhythm in a demanding system. Alcácer scored just eight goals from 27 appearances, 11 of which were starts—numbers that hardly impressed for a Barcelona striker.
Recognizing the need for more reliable firepower, new manager Ernesto Valverde made signing a forward a priority, eventually settling on Deulofeu. But can he survive in one of football’s most pressure-filled attacking roles? Deulofeu is confident: “I’m staying at Barcelona next season. I’m ambitious and want to play with the best.” However, history shows that breaking into Barcelona’s front line is easier said than done.
Since Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Neymar formed the famed MSN trio, few forwards have earned consistent minutes. In their first season together, even Pedro Rodríguez—then the fourth-choice forward—struggled for opportunities. Though Suárez was suspended early in the season, Pedro only managed 22 starts out of 50 appearances before moving to Chelsea.
For Deulofeu to cement his place, he’ll need to break this cycle. The challenge is steep, but with his pace and work ethic, he could yet carve out a role in Valverde’s system. And for global fans—especially those tuned into both La Liga and Live Cricket Bangladesh—his journey back at Barcelona is one worth keeping an eye on.
